Library Card Policy
Obtaining a Library Card
Library card applicants must present a photo ID. If the applicant's current address is not on their photo ID, then a proof of address will be required. This could be a lease, bill, or other piece of mail.
If you already have a current library card from a qualifying public library in C/W MARS you may use your existing card to borrow materials at Leverett Library as long as your card is in good standing. Patrons may only have one C/W MARS card.
Library Card Expiration
Library cards are valid for two years. At the end of the two years, library cards will need to be renewed. This can be done in person, over the phone, or via email.
Borrower Responsibilities
The borrower assumes full responsibility for any items borrowed on their card. This responsibility extends to paying replacement costs for items lost or damaged. Borrowing privileges may be suspended for failure to return, replace, or pay for lost or damaged items. Each patron should use their own library card when checking out materials. Parents or guardians are responsible for any charges incurred on their child’s card if the child is under 18 years of age.
Special circumstances can be brought to the attention of the Library Director for review.
Patrons may be blocked from checking out items when they:
- Owe more than $10 in fines
- Have billed or lost materials
- Have 50 or more items currently checked out
Leverett Library does not charge fines for late items. Items requested through interlibrary loan may incur fines according to the owning library’s policies.
In the case of lost or damaged materials, borrowers are responsible for a fee as determined by the Library Director or the default sum in an item record. Replacement of an item with a new copy is acceptable if it is the same edition and format.
